Fashion's most anticipated night, the Met Gala, made its return for the 2025 edition, taking place on Tuesday, May 6, in New York. More than just a showcase of stunning attire, this annual gathering serves as a crucial fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.
This year, the event embraced the theme "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style," inviting guests to interpret the dress code "Tailored for You." This theme directly reflects the central exhibition it supports, which explores the significant role of style in the formation of Black identities within the Atlantic diaspora.
According to the Met, the exhibition delves into the history of Black dandyism, examining how it emerged from the intersection of African and European sartorial traditions. It highlights the profound importance of sophisticated dress in expressing identity and culture.
Regarded as a premier event in the fashion calendar, the Met Gala consistently attracts a star-studded list of Hollywood A-listers and prominent figures. This year's event was chaired by Vogue’s Anna Wintour, alongside co-chairs Lewis Hamilton, Pharrell Williams, A$AP Rocky, Lebron James, and Colman Domingo, welcoming guests to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Attendees graced the iconic steps, showcasing their interpretations of the "Tailored for You" dress code inspired by the "Superfine" theme.
