News of her passing was shared by her family on Saturday, April 12, with her granddaughter, actress Janine Gutierrez, posting a heartfelt message on Facebook. Gutierrez highlighted not only Corrales' musical talent but also her kindness and generous spirit, emphasizing the profound impact she had on those around her.
Pilita Corrales was more than just a singer; she was a defining voice in Original Pilipino Music (OPM). Her crystal-clear vocals and distinctive style captivated audiences for decades. Known for hits like "Rosas Pandan" and "Kapantay ay Langit," her signature move of bending backwards while singing became instantly recognizable and a testament to her vocal control.
Hailing from Cebu, Pilita's influence extended beyond her performances. She inspired countless aspiring singers and famously hosted "Ang Bagong Kampeon," a TV program that served as a launchpad for Asia's Songbird, Regine Velasquez. Within her own family, her musical talent is carried on by her children, Jackie Lou Blanco and Ramon Christopher Gutierrez.
