The legal team representing Journey frontman Arnel Pineda has stepped forward to address recent reports, clarifying that a Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) case filed against him by his wife, Cherry, was, in fact, a retaliatory measure.
Whispers of a bench warrant for Pineda's arrest had been circulating, stemming from Branch 99 of the Quezon City Regional Trial Court. However, his legal representatives from Chavez Miranda Aseoche Law Offices quickly dispelled concerns, explaining that the warrant wasn't indicative of a crime committed.
Instead, the warrant was issued simply to compel his attendance at hearings, which Pineda was unable to attend due to hospitalization and subsequent scheduling conflicts.
Pineda's camp further revealed a significant twist in the narrative: it was the singer who first initiated legal proceedings, filing two adultery cases against Cherry. These filings, they assert, prompted her domestic violence complaint over a year later as a direct response.
Allegations in the initial reports claimed Cherry had endured years of "verbal assault, manipulation, and coercive behavior" from Arnel, leading to her departure from their shared home. However, Pineda's side paints a different picture, citing alleged video evidence from 2023 showing his wife leaving a Baguio City hotel with another man.
Further investigation by private detectives reportedly uncovered that Cherry and the man were utilizing a unit in a commercial building owned by the 58-year-old musician as what was described as a "love nest."
These two adultery cases are currently active and undergoing trial at Branch 34 of the Metropolitan Trial Court of Quezon City and Branch 3 of the Municipal Trial Court of Baguio City. It's noted that Cherry and her alleged lover have already posted bail and faced arraignment.
Adding another layer to the complex legal entanglement, the Department of Justice reportedly issued a resolution on September 4, instructing the Office of the Quezon City Prosecutor to withdraw its initial findings of probable cause against Arnel Pineda.
Pineda's legal team emphasized his deliberate silence on the matter, respecting the judicial process and preferring court resolution over public opinion. They noted his choice to observe the *sub judice* rule, a restraint they claim his wife "obviously violated" by releasing a "one-sided narrative."
Furthermore, the Chavez Miranda Aseoche Law Offices asserted that it was Cherry who "abandoned" their family, leaving Arnel to shoulder the responsibility of caring for their children alone.
Crucially, Pineda's representatives confirmed that the domestic violence case filed by Cherry has since been dismissed at the Department of Justice level.
Beyond the headlines, Arnel Pineda is globally recognized as the dynamic lead vocalist of the iconic American rock band Journey, a role he's held with distinction. His powerful vocals have helped deliver enduring hits like "Don’t Stop Believin’," "Separate Ways," "Any Way You Want It," and "Faithfully" to legions of fans worldwide.
Arnel and Cherry Pineda exchanged vows in 2001.
