Get ready for a new dimension in movie-watching, Philippines! SM Cinema is set to unveil the nation's very first 270-degree panoramic ScreenX theater, promising an unparalleled cinematic experience. This groundbreaking collaboration with global cinema technology leader CJ 4DPLEX will debut at the iconic SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City.
Imagine your favorite films not just on one screen, but expanding seamlessly onto the side walls of the auditorium. That's the immersive magic of ScreenX. Living up to its tagline as "the world's most immersive platform," this innovative multi-projector system transforms the theater into a truly panoramic environment, designed to pull you deeper into the on-screen action.
Jun Bang, CEO of CJ 4DPLEX, described the inauguration of the ScreenX theater as "a major milestone in our mission to innovate cinematic storytelling." Echoing this sentiment, CJ 4DPLEX Chief Brand Officer Don Savant added that bringing this "immersive 270-degree format to the Mall of Asia, one of Southeast Asia’s most iconic destinations, allows us to offer Filipino audiences a bold new way to experience film."
SM Cinema, already the Philippines' largest cinema exhibitor operating over 300 screens across 76 branches nationwide, continues to expand its premium offerings. This new ScreenX addition joins their existing array of formats, which include regular 2D, IMAX, Director’s Club, and Event Cinema experiences. Globally, there are already over 435 ScreenX theaters spread across 40 countries.
The innovative technology behind ScreenX comes from CJ 4DPLEX, a cinema technology company with a global footprint, including offices in Seoul, Los Angeles, and Beijing. They are also responsible for pioneering other immersive formats like 4DX and Ultra 4DX. As part of the larger South Korean-based CJ Group conglomerate, they are connected to CJ CGV, the world’s fifth-largest theater chain, and CJ ENM, the acclaimed studio behind the Academy Award and Golden Globe-winning film *Parasite*.
While the official launch date for the SM Mall of Asia ScreenX theater is still awaiting announcement, anticipation is building for what promises to be a significant advancement in Philippine cinema. This exciting development follows other recent upgrades in the local movie scene, such as Glorietta 4’s renovated A-Luxe theater, which reopened its doors last August.
