J-pop star Kenshin Kamimura pleads not guilty to indecent assault in Hong Kong

J-pop artist Kenshin Kamimura, formerly of the group ONE N' ONLY, has entered a plea of not guilty to indecent assault charges in a Hong Kong court. The courtroom proceedings at West Kowloon Magistrates’ Court saw a visibly emotional Kamimura, with reports indicating he was tearful and his hands trembling as he declared his innocence.

The charges stem from an alleged incident in March, where Kamimura is accused of assaulting a woman at a restaurant in Hong Kong. This incident also led to his dismissal from his management agency, Stardust Promotion, who cited a "serious compliance violation" as the reason for his termination from the popular boy band.

During the hearing, Magistrate Li Chi-ho addressed Kamimura, who confirmed his ability to proceed despite his emotional state. Indecent assault in Hong Kong carries a significant penalty, with a maximum sentence of up to ten years in prison. Kamimura was granted bail, and the case is set to continue with a three-day hearing scheduled for July 30.

The case has drawn considerable attention, particularly from fans. Scores of supporters reportedly queued outside the court from early morning, eager to witness the proceedings. Some fans had even travelled from Japan and mainland China, highlighting the artist's regional popularity and the level of interest in the unfolding legal situation.

Court documents indicate the alleged assault occurred on March 2 in Mong Kok, a bustling district of Hong Kong. However, the charge sheet released to the public provided no further details regarding the specifics of the accusation, leaving many details of the alleged incident still undisclosed.
