Rockwell’s new Proscenium Theater to open with ‘The Bodyguard’ musical

Theater lovers, get ready! A brand-new performance venue is set to open its doors in Rockwell, Makati City this September. Introducing the Proscenium Theater, designed to elevate the live performance experience.

According to the property developers, this new space has been meticulously planned for both aesthetic appeal and practical functionality. It boasts a generous 16-by-16 meter stage, complemented by a fully automated fly line system and a spacious orchestra pit. These advanced features are designed to accommodate a wide range of theatrical productions, from large-scale musicals to more intimate stagings.

Such technical capabilities position the Proscenium Theater as one of the most versatile and accommodating venues available in Metro Manila, allowing for dynamic set changes and complex choreography that truly bring performances to life.

With a seating capacity of 780 across the Orchestra and Dress Circle sections, the design ensures that audiences feel connected to the action. The farthest seats are positioned just 20 meters from the stage, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their row, enjoys a direct and clear line of sight.

Reflecting its name, "proscenium" refers to the arch or frame that separates the stage from the audience in a theater. This architectural choice in the Proscenium Theater's design emphasizes a close and engaging relationship between the artists and those watching.

The theater is located within The Proscenium development, a residential and commercial complex that also features various retail and dining establishments. The entire development was designed by the internationally acclaimed Uruguayan architect Carlos Ott.

Marking its grand opening, the Proscenium Theater will debut with a highly anticipated production: 9 Works Theatrical's staging of "The Bodyguard The Musical," making its premiere in Manila.

Based on the beloved 1992 film that starred Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner, the musical tells the story of a former Secret Service agent hired to protect a global music icon from a dangerous stalker. Their professional dynamic evolves into an unexpected and powerful romance amidst the threat.

Fans of the original film will be thrilled to know the musical incorporates many of Whitney Houston's legendary hits from the soundtrack, including "I Will Always Love You," "I Have Nothing," "Run to You," and "I Wanna Dance with Somebody." These iconic anthems will be performed by a talented cast featuring both local and international artists.

"The Bodyguard The Musical" has already achieved global success, having been staged in over 15 countries and enjoying a hit run on London's West End.
