During a recent episode of "The Kardashians," reality television personality Kim Kardashian sparked considerable discussion by expressing skepticism about the 1969 Apollo 11 moon landing, suggesting she believes the iconic event was a fabrication.
Kardashian explained that her doubts stemmed from an online video featuring astronaut Buzz Aldrin. She stated that she interpreted Aldrin's comments in the video as an admission that the lunar mission, which saw Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walk on the moon, was not real.
However, Aldrin's remarks, reportedly from a 2015 appearance at Britain’s Oxford Union debating society, seem to have been taken out of context. When asked about the "scariest moment" of the mission, Aldrin reportedly dismissed the idea, saying, "It didn’t happen" in a way that suggested no frightening incidents occurred, not that the mission itself was fictional.
The highly publicized comments from Kardashian prompted a swift and direct response from Sean Duffy, NASA’s acting administrator. Taking to the X social media platform, Duffy emphatically clarified the agency's position: "Yes, @KimKardashian, we’ve been to the Moon before … 6 times!"
Duffy further highlighted that the United States is actively preparing to return to the moon, under the leadership of President Donald Trump. He referenced the upcoming Artemis II mission, scheduled for 2026, which will send astronauts on a 10-day journey around the moon, preceding a planned lunar landing in 2027. Duffy confidently added, "We won the last space race and we will win this one too."
Conspiracy theories questioning the authenticity of the moon landing have intermittently circulated since the 1970s, despite the event being witnessed live by millions worldwide. NASA, however, consistently maintains the factual integrity of its historic Apollo program achievements.
