K-pop sensation Yves recently brought her highly anticipated "Cosmic Crispy" tour to Manila, enchanting a packed Samsung Hall at SM Aura. Greeting the enthusiastic crowd on Tuesday night, September 2, Yves shared her joy, exclaiming, "I’m so happy to be here, and it feels like a dream because I’m here for the first time."
However, eagle-eyed fans were quick to remind the soloist that while this was indeed her debut solo concert in the country, she had previously graced Philippine stages. In October 2022, she performed alongside her former group LOONA at Popstival in Pasay City. Taking the reminder in stride, Yves playfully responded, "Oh, twice now?" before adding in Korean, "Well, I’m the happiest today, so I consider this my first time."
This solo venture marks a significant chapter for Yves, following a tumultuous 2022 for LOONA. The group faced public challenges, including contract disputes, concerns over members' welfare, and a fan boycott of their then-agency. These events ultimately led to the members pursuing individual paths, allowing their distinct talents to flourish – a journey Yves has embraced wholeheartedly as a soloist.
From the moment she kicked off the night with an arresting dance performance of "Hashtag," it was clear why Yves is considered a standout artist. Her ability to captivate an audience with breathtaking vocals and powerful choreography was evident. She seamlessly transitioned into "Aiboo," inviting fans to sing along and fostering an immediate, intimate connection.
Yves' command of the stage was undeniable throughout the evening. Whether executing flawless routines with her backup dancers or standing alone, her siren-like voice held the audience spellbound. Her charming personality shone through in breaks between songs, as she playfully attempted to mouth English translations alongside her interpreter, eliciting laughter and further endearing herself to the crowd.
The energy in Samsung Hall reached fever pitch as Yves transformed the venue into a vibrant dance floor. Hits like "LOOP," "Viola," and "White Cat" had every fan on their feet, dancing along. Even during interludes featuring her club banger "Study" and the TikTok-viral "DIM," the audience's enthusiasm remained sky-high, proving the infectious nature of her music.
As the final stop of her "Cosmic Crispy" tour, Manila left a lasting impression on Yves. Reflecting on the night, she confessed in Korean, "This is my first time to do a Philippine concert as a solo artist. I felt a little bit of pressure and I felt a little bit burdened. But because I see you guys just sing along and enjoy the show with me, I think I can put my heart a bit at rest now." She concluded by expressing her gratitude and strong desire to return, crediting Philippine Engdus (her fanbase) for making it "the best version" of her tour.
