Space for music, advocacy: Best Buddies, Bistro Group stage benefit concert

Get ready for an evening where melodies meet mission! The Best Buddies Philippines Foundation Inc. (BBPFI) and The Bistro Group are once again joining forces to host "Sounds of Change 2," a special benefit concert dedicated to championing individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

Scheduled for September 11 at 6 PM, this uplifting event will take place at the iconic Hard Rock Cafe in S Maison, Pasay City. It’s more than just a concert; it embodies Hard Rock Cafe's spirit of "Love All-Serve All," creating an inclusive platform that celebrates musical talent while fostering crucial advocacy.

The stage will light up with performances from remarkable BBPFI artists and musicians, including Anouck Weber, Clarence Cruz, Ian Borleo, Kyle Ebora, Luis Gatchalian, Mark Daza, Sky Jacoba, Alex Soriano, and Nep Gonzales III. These talented individuals aren't just performers; they proudly serve as ambassadors, using their voices to spotlight the rich experiences of their community.

"Music is something that the buddies identify with; it brings people together all the time. It is meant to create change in the community," shared Michelle Aventajado, BBP executive director. She emphasized the concert's role in amplifying these talents, stating, "Sounds of Change will feature buddies with IDDs who have incredible talents, as we believe that the best way to amplify these talents is to put the spotlight on them, even just for one night, and showcase their abilities."

Adding to the event's depth, the De La Salle College of St. Benilde Music Production Program has played a pivotal role, offering invaluable guidance to the young musicians on their set lists and providing essential technical advice. Patrick Frias, the program's department chairperson, lauded this initiative as a "shining example" of how educational institutions can forge meaningful, inclusive experiences, showcasing music's profound power as a universal language for social inclusion and personal growth.

The commitment to inclusivity extends beyond the stage; organizers ensured that all frontline staff underwent comprehensive orientations and training. These sessions focused on enhancing disability awareness, promoting proper communication practices, and fostering open discussions about both personal and professional interactions. Following the success of the inaugural concert, Lisa Ronquillo-Along, The Bistro Group’s chief marketing officer, expressed excitement to once again showcase the 'buddies' through this collaborative effort.

At its heart, this partnership between Best Buddies and The Bistro Group strives to cultivate greater awareness and acceptance for neurodivergent young adults. It actively advocates for their full inclusion across all sectors and spaces, highlighting music as a powerful and accessible avenue for individuals from diverse backgrounds and with varying capabilities to express themselves creatively and collaborate harmoniously.

Those wishing to support this inspiring cause can purchase tickets online for P1,550 via Ticket2me. All proceeds from "Sounds of Change 2" will directly benefit Best Buddies Philippines projects, furthering their mission to empower individuals with IDD through vital employment opportunities, leadership development, and robust community building initiatives.
