Liza Soberano officially confirms breakup with Enrique Gil

After years of speculation, actress Liza Soberano has officially confirmed her long-rumored separation from fellow actor and former reel-to-real partner, Enrique Gil. In a candid revelation on the YouTube podcast-documentary "Can I Come In?" hosted by filmmaker Sarah Bahbah, Soberano shared that the popular 'LizQuen' tandem had actually parted ways almost three years ago.

Soberano, 27, openly referred to Gil as her first love, explaining that the decision to keep their breakup under wraps was mutual at first, albeit for different reasons. She disclosed that Gil initially wanted to deny the split, possibly stemming from a reluctance to accept its reality. Meanwhile, Soberano admitted her own fears were tied to her career: "I was so afraid that if people found out that we weren’t together anymore, my career would go bad or people just wouldn’t love me anymore," she confessed.

The actress further elaborated on the significant role their love team played in her life, describing it as a "safety net" and an "armor." She credited the LizQuen partnership with helping her overcome challenging personal circumstances, including escaping poverty and abuse, by providing financial stability and the freedom to pursue opportunities she previously couldn't.

This confirmation brings an end to a series of persistent breakup rumors that began circulating as early as 2022. At the time, Soberano had publicly denied the reports, stating that she and Gil were "totally fine." Gil also appeared to indirectly address the rumors in January 2023 with a heartfelt birthday message to Soberano, referring to her as his "best friend and baby," and reiterated in July 2023 that they were "good" but simply busy with individual projects.

The latest revelation follows claims made by talent manager Ogie Diaz in May 2023, who suggested that the breakup was Soberano's decision to focus on her burgeoning Hollywood career, while Gil had reportedly tried to salvage their relationship. Despite these claims, Gil had continued to deny the split as recently as February 2024, maintaining that they were happy and merely occupied with work.

Soberano and Gil first began dating in 2014, making their relationship public in 2019. Throughout their partnership, they starred in several successful films and series, including *Just the Way You Are*, *My Ex and Whys*, *Dolce Amore*, *Make it With You*, and *Forevermore*, solidifying their status as one of the most beloved on-screen and off-screen pairings in Philippine entertainment.
