Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs to be sentenced on October 3

A federal judge has set October 3 as the sentencing date for music figure Sean "Diddy" Combs. This follows his conviction on charges related to transporting individuals for drug-fueled sexual performances.

U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian, who presided over the Manhattan trial, approved this date. The decision came after a request from Combs' lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, and was agreed upon by both prosecutors and probation officers.

Despite being acquitted of the most serious counts, Combs, 55, remains in custody at a Brooklyn jail, where he has been held since his arrest in September of last year.

While jurors on July 2 found him not guilty of sex trafficking and racketeering charges that could have resulted in a life sentence, they did convict him on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. The outcome of the trial was seen as a setback for the prosecution, yet it brought relief and celebration from Combs and his supporters.

During the trial, prosecutors alleged that Combs coerced two former romantic partners, one of whom was identified as Casandra "Cassie" Ventura and another who testified anonymously as Jane, into unwanted sexual acts with male sex workers, with assistance from his staff. A third anonymous witness, identified as Mia, testified that Combs sexually assaulted her multiple times while she was employed by him. Combs maintained a plea of not guilty to all five charges he originally faced.

Regarding sentencing, Combs' legal team is expected to submit their recommendation by September 19, with prosecutors likely to follow a week later. Under federal guidelines, prosecutors have indicated a potential sentence range of 51 to 63 months, while the defense has suggested a two-year term based on the same guidelines. However, Judge Subramanian is not bound by these recommendations and may impose a different sentence.

The defense also has until July 30 to file a motion asking the judge to overturn Combs' conviction.

Beyond the legal proceedings, Sean Combs is recognized as the founder of Bad Boy Records, a label credited with significantly influencing hip-hop culture and launching the careers of notable artists such as Notorious B.I.G. and Usher.

Combs is also currently facing numerous civil lawsuits that accuse him of various forms of abuse. He has consistently denied all allegations of wrongdoing in these cases.
