Dr. Willie Ong, a renowned cardiologist often referred to as the "Doktor ng Bayan," recently shared an emotional and deeply meaningful experience as he battles sarcoma, a type of abdominal cancer. In an interview with "Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho," Dr. Willie opened up about a vivid dream that he had, which involved a vision of his late mother. This profound experience gave him an opportunity to reflect deeply on his current situation and his life’s purpose.

Dr. Willie explained that the dream occurred a few nights ago, and since then, he has experienced several "visions." In one of these dreams, he saw his mother, who passed away two years ago. He described the scene vividly, sharing that in the dream, it felt like his mother was calling him to join her in the afterlife. “I saw my mom in my dream, and she was taking me with her,” he revealed.

In the dream, Dr. Willie distinctly heard his mother calling him. “She said, ‘Willie boy, come to me, come to me!’” he recounted. In the vision, his mother seemed to be telling him that his work on earth was done. “It was like my mom was saying, ‘You’ve done your job on earth. You’ve worked for 60 years,’” he added, hinting at the possibility that it might be time for him to rest.

Despite these visions and the serious health challenges he is currently facing, Dr. Willie remains humble and grounded. He acknowledged the possibility of a grim outcome but expressed that he is at peace with whatever may come. “If they say there’s no hope, then that’s it, that’s life,” he said with a calm acceptance, demonstrating his openness to his fate without fear or resentment.

Aside from discussing his illness, Dr. Willie also highlighted his unwavering principles in serving the Filipino people, which have not changed even after running for public office twice. He emphasized that he did not accept any money from companies or individuals who wanted to donate to his campaign, especially from pharmaceutical companies.

“For 25 years, I haven’t charged a single patient. Not a single pharmaceutical company has paid me off. I haven’t gone on any foreign trips,” he proudly stated, underscoring his integrity as a doctor and a public figure. He added that during his 2019 Senate campaign, he only spent P500,000, a modest amount compared to other candidates. And when he ran for vice president alongside Isko Moreno in 2022, Dr. Willie reiterated that he did not receive any money for that campaign either. “Campaigning with Isko, I didn’t accept any money. I could have gotten tens of millions, but I didn’t,” he clarified.

Dr. Willie’s honesty and clean track record have become emblematic of his reputation as a selfless doctor, always willing to share his expertise for the benefit of others. He continues to be admired by many Filipinos for his unmatched dedication to public health, especially since he hasn’t charged professional fees for his patients in over 25 years.

Even amid the personal challenges he is facing, Dr. Willie remains hopeful and continues to approach each day with faith and acceptance. Many netizens and supporters are fervently praying for his recovery, hoping that he can continue to share his medical knowledge and serve the country.

For now, the public eagerly awaits any updates about Dr. Willie’s condition, but it’s clear that for him, the most important thing is that he has fulfilled his role as both a doctor and a public servant. Regardless of what the future holds, Dr. Willie believes that the greatest achievement is knowing that he has done his part to help others and serve his country with sincerity and dedication.
