‘Heneral Luna,’ ‘Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral’ back in cinemas for Independence Day

Attention film fans and history buffs! Just in time for Independence Day, two celebrated historical epics are making a special return to select cinemas in Metro Manila: Jerrold Tarog's "Heneral Luna" and "Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral."

Produced by TBA Studios, these award-winning films offer compelling portraits of revolutionary heroes who played crucial roles during the Philippine-American War, reminding us of the struggles fought for our nation's independence.

"Heneral Luna," released in 2015, brings to life the story of General Antonio Luna during the challenging dawn of the American occupation. Beyond depicting battles, the film delves into a nation grappling with internal conflict and external threats, sparking widespread conversations and becoming a cultural phenomenon. Led by John Arcilla's acclaimed performance, it garnered significant recognition, including Best Film and Best Actor at the 34th Luna Awards.

Following up in 2018, "Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral" explores the journey of Gregorio del Pilar, one of the youngest generals of the war. The film captures the unique weight of immense responsibility colliding with the coming-of-age experience during a pivotal historical period. It chronicles the young general's path towards heroism and his eventual fate. Headlined by Paulo Avelino, "Goyo" also earned accolades, winning Best Film at the 37th Luna Awards.

For those looking to catch these cinematic tributes, special screenings are happening on June 12 at these locations: Robinsons Galleria Ortigas, Robinsons Manila, Robinsons Antipolo, Shangri-La Red Carpet Cinema, Fishermall Quezon City, Fishermall Malabon, and Sta. Lucia East Grand Mall in Cainta, Rizal.

You can also watch them from June 12 to 15 at SM Cinema North EDSA, SM Cinema Mall of Asia, and SM Cinema Fairview. Ticket prices for these screenings start at P150 in select theaters.

This limited cinema run precedes the anticipated release of "Quezon," the next film in Tarog's historical series dubbed the "Bayaniverse." Starring Jericho Rosales as Manuel L. Quezon and featuring "Game of Thrones" actor Iain Glen, the biopic is slated to arrive in local cinemas later this year.
