‘There will never be another Ricky Davao’: Family, friends fondly remember late actor

The Philippine entertainment industry mourns a significant loss with the passing of veteran actor and director Ricky Davao. His children confirmed on May 2 that he died due to complications related to cancer.

Known for his versatile performances and his transition into directing, Ricky Davao was clearly much more than just a figure on screen. Tributes pouring in from family, friends, and colleagues highlight his impact not only as a professional but as a deeply valued person in their lives.

His daughters shared heartfelt messages reflecting their personal bond. Justine posted cherished childhood photos, affectionately calling herself her father's "Teddygirl." Meanwhile, Ara shared a simple, poignant portrait of Ricky with the words, "I miss you so much Pa."

Ricky's non-showbiz girlfriend, Malca, offered a moving tribute, remembering him as the embodiment of unconditional love and the bravest person she knew. She spoke of how he helped her discover a deeper part of herself through love, and expressed the profound emptiness his absence has created. As a lasting gesture, she got tattoos of his initials and handwriting.

Actress Lotlot De Leon shared her long-standing connection with Ricky, dating back to her childhood when he worked with her mother, Nora Aunor. She described him as "Kuya Ricky" and "Tito Nong" to her children, recalling personal conversations about life, his constant encouragement during tough times, and his obvious fondness for her kids. His passing has left a noticeable gap in her heart and their family's.

Manilyn Reynes, who worked with him relatively recently, expressed sorrow over not having one last phone call with her "kuya." She fondly remembered his thoughtfulness, like bringing her souvenirs from trips, and how he made her feel secure during challenging scenes on set.

Among those influenced by his career was Dingdong Dantes, who admired Ricky from afar before having the chance to work with him as father and son in a series. Dingdong shared how lock-in tapings allowed him to connect with Ricky on a deeper level, engaging in meaningful talks about acting, life purpose, family, and even recipes. He emphasized Ricky's generosity in sharing his truth, laughter, and guidance, noting that his memorable "Chinito smile" will stay with everyone who knew him.

Jericho Rosales also spoke of Ricky's impact, remembering him as funny, generous, and an electrifying artist he greatly admired. He mentioned hoping to work with him again and, despite the sadness, chose to celebrate his life, echoing the sentiment that there will truly "never be another Ricky Davao."

Memorial services for Ricky Davao are scheduled to be held at The Heritage Park in Taguig City from May 4 to 7. May 4 is allocated for family and friends, with a dedicated family tribute planned for May 6.
