The legal dispute between prominent actress Sharon Cuneta, her husband, Senator Kiko Pangilinan, and showbiz columnist Cristy Fermin has reportedly reached a resolution. The couple has officially withdrawn the cyber libel complaint they previously filed against Fermin, marking an end to the contentious legal battle.
Following the decision to drop the complaint, the 'Megastar' Sharon Cuneta took to social media to share her feelings. In an Instagram post, she expressed being "happy and at peace" after the reconciliation. She fondly mentioned missing "Nay" (referring to Fermin) and highlighted the enduring value of friendship and love, noting that such bonds are not easily discarded and are easy to resume.
Showbiz insider Ogie Diaz also confirmed the development via his Facebook page on Tuesday, July 8. He stated that the couple and Fermin are now on good terms after the complaint was dropped. Diaz's post suggested that the resolution came after Cristy Fermin had issued a public apology on her YouTube channel.
The formal process of dropping the complaint involved a meeting at the Makati Regional Trial Court Branch 148. Ogie Diaz commented on the situation, emphasizing that legal battles aren't the only way to seek justice. He suggested that 'heart-to-heart' discussions can lead to forgiveness and resolution, especially when a prior relationship existed between the parties involved.
To recall, the cyber libel complaint was initially filed by Cuneta and Pangilinan in May 2024. They cited alleged malicious statements made by Fermin, which they claimed subjected them to "humiliation and ridicule," leading to the legal action.
