LOOK: Liza Soberano throws ceremonial pitch for LA Dodgers’ Filipino Heritage Night

Filipino-American actress Liza Soberano recently took center stage at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California, stepping onto the legendary field to throw the ceremonial first pitch for the LA Dodgers' Filipino Heritage Night. The special event coincided with the Dodgers' game against the New York Mets, taking place on Tuesday, which was Wednesday morning, June 4, in Manila.

The 27-year-old star shared her excitement about the moment, posting, "So honored to be amongst all my kababayans (countrymen) throwing the first pitch at the Dodgers vs Mets game for Filipino Heritage Night!" She candidly added about her performance on the mound, "I was so nervous, but I think I did okay?"

Soberano joins a distinguished list of celebrities with Filipino roots who have been highlighted during the Dodgers' heritage celebrations. Previous participants include singers Ylona Garcia and Saweetie, as well as actor Jacob Batalon, known for his role in the Spider-Man films, who have either performed or thrown ceremonial pitches at the stadium.

Filipino Heritage Night is a recurring and popular event not only in California but also in states like Texas, celebrated by various major sports teams. NBA franchises such as the Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, Sacramento Kings, and Houston Rockets have also hosted Pinoy-centric side attractions during their games, showcasing Filipino culture and community.

Interestingly, Soberano's appearance at Dodger Stadium aligns with the recent launch of her latest creative endeavor, "Can I Come In?". This unique project is described as a "podcast-cinema-documentary hybrid," created, directed, and hosted by Arab-Australian artist and photographer Sarah Bahbah.

Sarah Bahbah characterizes "Can I Come In?" as a groundbreaking immersive art series that blends vulnerability with high-cinema aesthetics. For this project, Soberano collaborated with notable figures including former adult film actress and sex workers' rights advocate Mia Khalifa, and acclaimed singer-songwriters Banks and Nemahsis.
